The UK's Premier Underground Bulletin Board System
Operating from Brighton, UK
tequila.darktech.org - +44-(0)1273-xxxxxx
** What is Tequila BBS?
Tequila BBS (tqbbs) is a free information-orientated system that contains info-
-rmation on a wide variety of "underground" subjects. It is presented with an
"old-school" ANSI BBS interface, accessible via dialup or telnet, although you
can also gain access to certain features via DHTML, FTP, POP3 or proprietary GUI
protocols.
** Why the name "Tequila"?
Because it gives me a headache every time I go near it.
** I'm new... what's a BBS?
Visit http://www.thedirectory.org/diamond/users.htm and read up all about the
world of BBSing, and even try out some other boards.
** So "juarez de juarez"?
The tqbbs filebases contain over 5,000 fully catalogued and mostly tested files
covering everything from anarchism to zen cracking... h/p/a/v/c/c/g with a
lot more besides.
** What is acceptable file content?
Anything related to underground subjects, free speech, computing, networking,
GNU software or generally interesting subjects, bar the following: pornography
(no thanks, there's enough around as it is), computer games (not interested, and
I just don't have the resources to keep up with storing 300mbs of data per game),
"appz" warez (some abandonware BBS software is OK though! :) ), or the trading
of blatantly illegal "c0dez" (such as CC's, logins, etc). Please don't upload MP3
files unless requested!
** What is there to do?
File libraries, multi-node chat, outbound telnet/ftp (restricted... heh), and
what'll hopefully become a thriving discussion based community... don't apply
if you don't want to contribute - by uploading files or participating in the
message forums.
** Who runs tqbbs?
Me! :) I'm Vortex - you might've seen me around Usenet alt.ph.uk/alt.2600, IRC
#2600-uk/#phuk or on some of the past 18 months' UK boards (Project Venona,
Mercyground, etc.). Contact me at vortex@tequila.f9.co.uk, or my website at
http://www.infowar.co.uk/vortex/.
** What runs tqbbs?
Hardwarez: Intel P75 Classic, 40mb RAM, 4x4 CD-changer, 2Gb archive disk
Softwarez: Windows 98 SE2, running a heavily modified Wildcat! 5.00 Net Server
to provide the BBS front-end. System and message databases are
stored on encrypted partitions to ensure system privacy.
Connection: 56k dialup node, up 9pm-9am daily, and TCP/IP connection on Saturdays
(and, less stably, on Sundays) supporting up to 3 simultaneous
connections.
** So how do I get an account?
Connect and type your name, it'll ask if you want to create a new account. Enter
"Y" if you do. You'll then be prompted for an NUP (New User Password), and asked
a selection of questions to determine how to configure your account.
To get the NUP, please contact me for a vetting questionnaire (aiming for a high
quality userbase, rather than quantity - to keep a steady flow of information).
Anonymous FTP may or may not be open, this service will carry e-zines, and the
latest versions of the tqbbs information files.
** I run a regularly published e-zine
Please contact tqbbs! E-zines will recieve their own seperate filebase where all
issues can be freely distributed. They are available to all users on the board,
and to anonymous FTP browsers.
** I've written a program/textfile and want to get it distributed
Please send it to archive@tequila.f9.co.uk for inclusion in the archives!
** I run a Bulletin Board System
Feel free to contact me to arrange mutual advertising, etc... I'd also be interes-
-ted in creating a QWK network between systems at some point - contact me for a
chat. Either way, I still enjoy calling BBS' as a user so at least let me know
you exist! :)
Thanks for reading,
Vortex (tqbbs sysop)
